Three days in a row! Let's see if I'll make it four...

Week of: May 13-19




Highlights this week: Softball season is in full 'swing', the weather improved- lots of time outside , the kids struggle with swimming lessons, soccer is going well

The weather has been weird. This was only our second game because we've had so many rainouts already.

On Saturday morning, Annaliese helped plant some beans in our garden.

Then we cheered on Ian at his soccer game. He scored SIX goals!

The weather was so nice that Annaliese played outside that afternoon.

But Ian opted to relax and play Annaliese's princess game.

Swimming lessons on Sunday have not been going to well for Annaliese. She went from fearless to frightened in one week, and now won't let go to float, even though she was doing it in the past.

Ian all set to swim on his back down to the other end. He gets a bit freaked out still, about how far it is and afraid of sinking. If he only had to go half the distance, he could totally do it.

Week with Grandma and Grandpa

My parents left Tuesday after spending a week here with us. Ian loved having them here, mostly because they would do everything he wanted, but that's what grandparents are for. Ian quickly learned the word 'hat' while they were here. He would bring grandpa both grandpa's hat and his hat to show grandpa he wanted to go outside. They went on at least two walks every day.

Their first night in town I had a softball game and they all came to watch. Ian met a girl who was passing out Lucky Charms to us on the team (we were behind in the final inning-and their luck worked). Ian was, of course, right next to her since she had food. I think he made a new friend. The crazy thing is that she's four, and I never would have guessed she was that old when they were standing next to each other.

The next morning, Ian had to take his grandparents to his favorite place, the zoo. Ian went wild in the aquarium, bouncing from one side of the tunnel to the other to look at all the fish and sharks. Thank goodness they were there to chase after him! The weather was perfect for the morning out and the animals were all awake and active. It was a great day.
Ian spent every night out in the pool on the deck. He didn't care what he wore, either. He'd get in with his clothes on, his swimsuit, just swimmers, or nothing at all. He loves walking around in the pool and dumping water from one container to another. He doesn't mind the water getting dumped on him, either. So much time in the pool has carried over to the tub, though. He won't sit down, just wants to walk around. Might have to pull the ducky tub back out.


Ian also had his 18-month pictures while they were here. The pictures turned out okay, but Ian just doesn't show his trademark smile there because they want to pose him and he wants to do his thing. We have the benefit here of capturing him in the moment. Here were some of our favorites that they got.

Quilt Group

The May UFO challenge has begun, and this month's number actually corresponds to the month-5. That means I'm working on my May wall-hanging. One of the gals in our group is celebrating her 300th post. Check out her blog- she's giving away some prizes http://www.quiltingcowgirl.blogspot.com.
We won our softball game last night. That makes us 2-0. Ian's had a crazy week. His baby-sitter had a family emergency and we've had to spend this week finding different people to watch him so that Darrin and I didn't have to take off most of the week from work. Our friends have really stepped up and helped us out, which is great. They've become our Omaha family, since our family is all 6 hours away.

This weekend is busy. My work book club is getting together on Saturday, and Sunday is quilting group day, plus we're meeting with the owner of the cabin we're staying in this summer for vacation. I can't wait for summer vacation!

Busy Life

It's been over a week since my last post, and that's because life's been busy! I joined a softball league for the summer and our first game was last Wednesday. I haven't played since high school (nine years) so my body was sore for days after, but it was a lot of fun. So much fun that I never bothered to find out if we won, which was the first thing Darrin asked me when I got home. Thursday was spent enjoying a dinner at church bells' practice. We performed 4 songs last Sunday at church. One song used a technique called singing bells, which is when you rotate a wooden dowel around the outside of the bell to make it sing. It's kinda like playing the water glasses with the tips of your fingers. Friday was scrapbooking/Wii night with our best friends. It's a weekly tradition. This week we broke down and bought a Cricut for scrapbooking. It's a little machine that cuts out die letters and shapes for our pages. This weekend was spent catching up on reading, yard work, and quilting. I've got my April UFO almost done for my online quilt group. All that I need to do is attach the binding.

Ian's been sick this weekend with a raspy cough in his chest. He's started saying please when we he wants more to eat and he puts his arms up in the "so big" pose and says touchdown. It is so cute. Hopefully the Packers will have lots of touchdowns come September so he can put it to use. He had a blast today playing with all the fabric I had lying around; pulling it out of the containers and spreading them all over the couch. We had spaghetti tonight, and he still refuses to eat marinara sauce. I'll leave you with my favorite picture from this week.
