Week 19: May 6-12

Highlights: At Ian's school for a BBQ...and Mother's Day...and a carnival. Muffins with Annaliese for Mother's day. Painted bedroom ceilings. Became Godparents again.

Darrin and I joined Ian for his school-wide BBQ. It was a chilly day!

Thursday Ian's class hosted a Mother's Day tea.

Friday morning I joined Annaliese at school for Muffins with Mom.

Seeing as how I was lugging my big camera purse around all week because of the kids' events, I snapped pictures all day long for a "Day in the Life" layout. Here's my messy cubical.

And then we went to CherryBerry.

Friday night there was a carnival at Ian's school. The kids loved the inflatables.

Ian showed us what a great shot he is.

Annaliese got her nails painted for the first time.

After we ran out of carnival tickets, we played on the school's playground.

Annaliese loved figuring out how to move from one moving island to another.

Ian showed us he can do the monkey bars.

Saturday Ian had another soccer game. He made an awesome goal.

Sunday our Godson Henry was baptized.

At the luncheon after the baptism, they had bubble blowers. Annaliese had lots of fun.

Mother's Day Weekend

This weekend began early for me with a Mother's Day party at Ian's preschool. There we had cupcakes and punch. I opened a gift Ian made me, a painted flowerpot, and then planted flowers they had for us to plant.


On Saturday we planted our gardens. Behind our house, in a flower bed I've never used, we planted tomatoes and peppers. I'm curious to see how well that will work out. We met Marlena and Noah later on at the church plot to plant the rest of the loot (zucchini, sweet potatoes, peas, beans, onions, broccoli, and lettuce). Annaliese and Walter did a great job entertaining themselves on their blankets. Marlena pointed out how some may think it's interesting that Annaliese had a blue blanket and Walter a pink one. We were just glad they brought toys, as we weren't that prepared...





The actual Mother's Day wasn't that much different than any other day. Darrin gave me tickets to see Wicked. Aside from the flower from Ian's preschool, I got another flower from Sunday School, painted hand prints with poems from both of their day cares, and a plaster hand print of Ian from Sunday school.


It was National Scrapbooking Day on Saturday, and I finished my first scrapbooking page since... November, or possibly even before that. I ended up making three pages, and now I'm on a roll and don't want to stop.

My Mother's Day

Ian gave me a gift certificate for Massage Envy for Mother's Day, but even better than that, he went to the bathroom in the big boy potty for the FIRST time. I wonder if it will be like when he took his first steps- he took them, and then didn't take any more for at least 2 weeks. Guess that would be okay, because 2 weeks is all I have left until summer vacation at work.

I spent the rest of Mother's Day quilting with the ladies. I hosted, so I didn't get a lot accomplished. I started working on a bag designed by our local quilt shop. If you take it when you go in to make a purchase, your name is entered into a monthly drawing. I've gone in 4 times and not had one, so I figured I should probably get around to making one. Hopefully I'll have a picture of it for my next post.

The weekend was a busy one. At our normal Friday get-together, I actually scrapbooked and got a page done for Ian's first book. The pictures were already attached to a page, but I never journaled or embellished it. I put it on a different background, and that was all the inspiration I needed to finish it. Looks so much better than on the original background and it was easy to finish.

Saturday we spent the day outside- I worked in the flower beds and Darrin finished up the gate for our new fence. We went to a wedding reception that night for one of my coworkers. Ian LOVED dancing- it was hard to get him to leave. We had the best wedding cake EVER there (well, except for the ice cream cake we had at our wedding). I told Darrin we needed to figure out where it was from so we could get it for Ian's next birthday. Darrin didn't think we could afford it. Turns out it was from Hy-Vee. I'm still amazed the best wedding cake I've ever had came from there and not some specialty place.

Progress

I know it's been awhile. I made myself promise not to post until I made some serious progress on my quilt. I thought I could get it assembled faster than I did. I always seem to underestimate the length of time. I thought I could get the pinwheels done in a day... more like a couple months. I thought sewing the rows together would take two hours... more like five. The quilt's one row short (I need to make one more pinwheel block). I'm thinking a thin border in one of the pindots (red, orange, yellow, green, blue) and then a bigger piano key border. I was leaning towards a thin red border. Opinions?

Ian went back to his daycare provider for the first time today, but I don't think he was keen on that idea in the beginning. He was so used to getting spoiled by his grandparents and staying at home. He wasn't the only one getting spoiled. It was so nice having my mom here last week, and then spending a long weekend with Darrin's parents. They cooked meals, cleaned the house, got up early with Ian. It was like one long mother's day for me! Speaking of mother's day, Ian got me the Tenderness figurine from Willow Tree and Darrin promised me a date night. I think we've had maybe two of those in the 15 months Ian's been alive. Date night for us is dinner and a movie, and with movies as expensive as they are here, we don't go very often. Here are some favorite pictures from this past week.
